From Northern Footpaths to Independent Field Notes
We founded Northstride after growing weary of generic lifestyle blogs that treated Nordic walking as a passing fitness novelty or an excuse to push affiliate links. Most online trail summaries were copied verbatim from decade-old council files, ignoring broken stiles, washed-out riverbanks, and changed bridleways.
From our workroom in Newcastle upon Tyne, we set out to build an accurate, deliberate journal. Every route we describe is surveyed on foot with carbon poles in hand, tracking true gradient changes, mud consistency, and gate openings. We examine pole handles, strap ergonomics, and ground tips with the same attentive eye we turn toward path markers.
We remain completely independent. We sell no commercial gear, accept no brand sponsorships, and publish zero marketing hype. Our goal is straightforward: providing walkers with reliable, beautifully crafted route guides and clear mechanical advice that stands up to every mile.
How We Verify Trail Information
Every route is walked in varied weather conditions, with waypoints verified against Ordnance Survey coordinates before publication. We re-walk our primary routes seasonally to update gate clearances, mud depth, and surface alterations.
Ground Truth
We never write about a route we have not walked personally from start to finish. Our mileage and pacing records stem directly from physical trail boots.
Editorial Clarity
We explain Nordic walking biomechanics in plain, practical language without buzzwords or false promises. We respect your time on the trail.
Local Custodianship
We support countryside access and respectful trail etiquette across Newcastle and its surrounding footpaths. We leave gates as found and keep trails pristine.
